1 Peter 3:1-2 & 3:6
1 In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your pure and reverent lives. 6 For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.
* Everyone in this life group should already know that God would never desire for a woman to be physically abused or to live in fear so please address this conversation and these questions with that as a predetermined fact that need not be the focus of our conversation about submission within a marriage.
Do you agree with God's command for wives to submit to their husbands found throughout the new testament? Why or why not? What makes this so challenging specifically? What do you think God is trying to accomplish through this commandment? Is this something you see often or rarely in marriages? Which marriages seem to be the happiest in your perspective both inside and outside of the Christian church? (Group Discussion)

1 Peter 3:7

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.
What does it mean for a man to honor and understand his wife? How would this address many of the fears and concerns that many women have with submission? (Group Discussion)
On Sunday Pastor Gary said that most men aren't praying and those that are praying don't even consider that if they fail to honor and understand their wives their prayers will be hindered. Pastor Gary drew our attention to the fact that couples, and men in particular, just want to be happy and feel loved and respected and cared for. If these things aren't happening men may be willing to try to figure out why and even change if it means they will be happier. Pastor Gary challenged us to ask ourselves as men if we care more about our happiness than we do about our prayers being hindered?
How important is a man's prayer life? Not in general but specifically for you as a man. For the men and women in this group, in your opinions from what you witness, how important are men's prayer lives to them? What are some of the signs you see in a man's life who does not want his prayers to be hindered? How can we get a hindered prayer life to create a greater sense of urgency in the lives of Christian men? (Group Discussion)

1 Peter 3:15
you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
In the section about "suffering" Pastor Gary told us that our testimonies carry a different kind of weight when they are shared while we are suffering. He pointed out that Jesus praying to His Father to forgive sinners while He was hanging on the cross has a different impact than Him praying for the food He would multiply and feed thousands with.
Why does explaining the hope you have in the midst of suffering have such a great impact on others? Do you understand that this hope is not a hope of deliverance from your suffering? Jesus was not hoping to come down from the cross when He prayed and showed everyone He still had hope in His Father. How can we be sure to testify and explain the hope we have in Christ in spite of our suffering? (Group Discussion)
