1.
Share 1 thing that stood out to you about Sunday's Message. (1 minute max please) Also press play button in image above to watch or listen to Sundays message if you missed it or just to refresh your memory. (Each Individual)
2. A Faith That Works
To start the message on Sunday Pastor Vaughn asked how many of us want a faith that works and then he asked a series of follow up questions: How many of you can go another 6 months without encountering Jesus in worship or prayer… How many of you can go another year without Jesus breathing life and hope into a dead area in your life… How many of you can go another 5 years with anger or bitterness or unforgiveness inside of you… How many of you can endure another decade with pain and wounds that don’t seem to be healing…
Do you have a faith that works or do you find that there is less actual faith, hope, love, transformation, deliverance, peace, forgiveness, grace, mercy and/or joy than you desire in your Christianity? (Each Individual)
At the end of service Pastor Vaughn asked how many of us want a faith that works and how many of us are willing to work for it? What are some of the “works” we need to do outside of Sunday church attendance in order for each of us to have a faith that works? (Group Discussion)
3. Hear & Receive Faith (The Root)
James 1:21
21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and RECEIVE with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
Romans 10:17
17 So faith comes from HEARING, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Ephesians 2:8
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God
Colossians 2:13-14
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
How is a person saved? Why is it so important to know and believe that Jesus does 100% of the work of saving of a soul? What does it take to stay saved? (Group Discussion)
4. Believe & Do Works (The Fruit)
James 1:22-25
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
James 2:14-17+26
14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
Luke 11:27-28
27 As He (Jesus) said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But He said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Ephesians 2:10
10 For we are His (God’s) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
What is the difference between the root of salvation (Grace & Faith) and the fruit of salvation (Works)? How does God use our good works for His glory? How does God use our good works for our own growth? How does God use our good works to help others in the physical AND draw them closer to Jesus in the spiritual? Why is faith without works dead or why is faith without works not true/real faith? *See Matthew 7:15-20* (Group Discussion)
* Remember to pray for each other before heading home from life group and to stay in communication here in the app throughout the week on your life group messaging thread!
