2. Jesus Is Not Your Friend

Hebrews 4:15-16

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said "The Bible is the story of God saying I LOVE you so much that I AM willing to do the unimaginable in order to “Relate” to you... I will come out of heaven to live amongst you as a man". Pastor Vaughn then told us that "Jesus is not your friend". While at first glance these two statements may seem contradictory, upon closer investigation they are not. If we think the only or best relationship we can have with Jesus is that of a friend then we struggle to reconcile these statement. However, if we start with the question "How did You come to relate to us Jesus?" instead of the assumption that He wants to be our friend then the struggle disappears and the adventure begins.

If Jesus wants to relate to us as Brother, Lord/Master, & Savior what are some/all of the attributes included in those types of relationship? (someone write down a list) What are some/all of the attributes that are excluded from that type of relationship? How does the truth of Hebrews 4 which tells us that He knows us and has been tempted in every way that we have impact the way in which we should relate to Jesus as Brother, Lord/Master, & Savior? (Group Discussion)

3. Whatever It Takes

Luke 5:18-19

18 And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, 19 but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn told us that Christian friendship includes a willingness to do whatever it takes to help your friend get from where they are to the place God wants them to be in every area of their life. PV also talked about expectations of friends and the way reaping of what the other has sown is baked in to friendships.
