2. Open For Business
Luke 22:3-6
3 Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. 4 So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.
On Sunday Pastor Vaughn talked about dealing with the suggestions and “toys” the devil likes to leave around for believers. We were told that while the devil cannot enter into the heart of a true believer he can tempt and set traps. Being open for business is about negotiations the enemy knows we have had in the past or we are willing to have now that will put ourselves or certain things in the #1 spot in our lives instead of Jesus. For Judas it turned out to be money and more than likely there were other contributing factors too but eventually they lead to Judas betraying Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. What area of your life do you think you are the most exposed or vulnerable to the devil’s attempts to make you betray Jesus? (Each Individual)
3. I Know Better
John 13:6-10
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” 8 Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” 9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean
1 Corinthians 8:2
2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
On Sunday Pastor Vaughn told us that we are blessed to read about this 3 stage process of Jesus getting Peter to a place of understanding even though he thought he understood from stage 1. Pastor Vaughn said that in our lives we don’t have the luxury of seeing all the stages and instead we have to have the wisdom to know if we are on stage 1, 3, or 5. This isn’t easy for anyone but it is a skill that can and should be developed in the lives of believers.
Why is this so hard for us to do like it was for Peter? What are some of the ways we can get better at this? Why is this important? When should we take action? Is there a danger of taking action too soon or too late? Can we think of some examples of being at the first stage but thinking we were at the final stage? (Group Discussion)
