2. Passionate About The Temple/Church

John 2:13-17

13 The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. 15 And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn talked about Jesus' passion for the temple being rooted in the role the temple is designed to play in the world. He told us that temple represents the one place on earth where the true God reveals Himself and comes to meet with His people and teaches His people and compels all people to come to Him. In light of this it makes sense that Jesus would be this upset about what was happening in the temple/church.

How should we view the temple/church that we go to every Sunday? Is the temple/church building & what happens in it still of significance to God? What should we expect to happen in our actual building when we gather? If not pigeons and currency exchanges, what are some of the things that may come into a church that are unacceptable and anger Jesus? Who is responsible for what is and isn't allowed in our temple/church building? (Group Discussion)

3. Transferred Twice

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said that all the garden, and mountain tops, and tabernacle, and temple provided was alluding to the coming of Jesus. The temple realities and truths were transferred to Jesus and He becomes the place where heaven meets earth and where God communes with His people. In a surprise turn of events, Jesus returns to heaven and tells all believers that the temple realities and truths have been transferred twice and now individual Christians are the place where heaven meets earth and where God communes with His people.

Which of the aspects of the temple we learned about on Sunday means the most to you in this season of your life and why? The cleansing in the temple of your life/heart/mind/body? The teaching that is/needs to be taking place in your temple? The intimate clear and consistent prayer life of your temple? (Each Individual)
