2. A Word For Our Friends That Don’t Know God

Acts 17:22-23

22 So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn talked about the differences between what Paul did & said in the church and what he did & said with the people who weren’t believers and weren’t in church.

Pastor Vaughn paraphrased Paul’s words in this passage to mean: “You are religious whether you think so or not… The question is to who and to what have you put your faith in and devoted yourself to” and then “Let me tell you about the God you know exist but don’t know yet… Let me fill the void and meet the need in your lives…”

We see Paul’s words and PV’s paraphrase but what do you think your friends who aren’t following Jesus need to hear and how and why? What was Paul trying to accomplish with his words here? What do you want for your friends and what are you trying to accomplish in your conversations with them? What makes these conversations hard? What makes these conversations easier? Do you feel more compelled to have these often tough conversations or more afraid to have them with your friends and family that don’t know Jesus? (Group Discussion)

3. Developing A Taste & An Appetite

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said “The bible is not a novel and it’s not a comic and so the way we have to approach it is different… The bible is something you have to develop a taste for and then you have to develop an appetite for it and in that process you have to discipline yourself in order to do that…”

Where are you at when it comes to a taste, an appetite, and discipline when it comes to reading the Bible? For those that have these how did you get there? For those that don’t why do you think you have struggled? What do you think can change this? Can you see yourself as someone who loves to read the Bible? How do you think this could actually and practically benefit you and is it worth the effort? (Each Individual)
