2. Just One Thing

Luke 18:35-43

35 As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, 41 “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” 42 And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn drew our attention to the question Jesus asked the blind man in verse 41 of this story. Jesus asked him “What do you want me to do for you?”. Pastor Vaughn said that it was important that Jesus didn't just assume that the man wanted his sight more than anything else in that moment and he asked us to consider how our requests should change the closer we get to Jesus.

If you were standing before Jesus tonight and could ask Him for "Just One Thing" what would it be AND explain why? For tonight, your request has to be for you, not friends or family or others or the church or the world. Specifically for you. (Each Individual)

3. Two Types Of Witnesses

Matthew 9:27-31

27 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” 31 But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn contrasted the first man who was healed and followed Jesus with the result of others glorifying God with the second group of two men who were healed that didn't follow Jesus and the result being Jesus' fame growing in that region. Pastor Vaughn asked us to consider that some people who have actually met and been touched by and healed by Jesus may not be good witnesses for Him.

Is it possible that even though these two men could be saved they are not yet those who Jesus desires to tell others about Him? Could this have to do with ongoing proximity/closeness to Jesus? Could this have to do with time spent with Jesus? What is the difference between good witnesses and bad witnesses? Can the testimony of some true believers about Jesus actually discourage others from seeking Him? How or Why? (Group Discussion)

4. 1 or 2, 1 or 2, 2 or 3, 2 or 3... 46 or 47, 46 or 47

Mark 8:22-25

22 And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” 25 Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.

There were so much self reflection encouraged on Sunday in relation to our own sight and God's ongoing work of giving us more and more clarity. Are you blind but don't know it? Do you see but see less clearly than you might think? Are others around you seeing less clearly or more clearly than you and how do you know? On Sunday Pastor Vaughn told us that in this story and in life Jesus is trying to get us to see Him more clearly AND ourselves/people/humanity more clearly. With so many questions above from Sunday let's just focus on a couple below.

How clear is your sight when it comes to Jesus? What do you see when you look at at people? Who in your life has the most clear spiritual sight and how often do the two of you discuss what you're seeing? (Each Individual)
