2. We Are Going Somewhere

In John 10:2-4 Jesus says…

2 he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

Jesus calls the sheep by name, He leads them out, He goes before them, and they follow Him. Pastor Vaughn said Jesus the Good Shepherd isn’t just saving people and then frolicking around aimlessly and neither should the “Under-Shepherd” Elders & Pastors of local churches.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn gave us perspective on the journey The Way has been on so far in 2025 and asked us to reflect on it. From a preaching and teaching perspective we’ve had 4 series including Just Jesus, Romans Roads, a month of Kingdom Culture’s “I Will Build My Church”, and most recently we completed our 1 Corinthians series. From a primary and secondary voices perspective we’ve received the Word of God from both of our Elders and 6 other Pastors have sown into us this year. Our youth have met faithfully every week, all Life Groups are completing their 4th session of gatherings next week, and our men/women/couples have each had retreats and consistent gatherings.

Prior to Sunday were you aware of the intentional journey The Way has been on this year? Is it important for everyone to be aware that their church is going somewhere or is this primarily important for the Elders & Leaders? How do you feel about where The Way has been going in 2025? (Group Discussion)

What part of The Way’s journey has been the most enjoyable or life giving for YOU as a member of the flock in 2025 & why? (Each Individual - Please choose ONE particular series, or event, or retreat, or your life group to share about)

3. Where Are You Going?

In John 10:5-14 speaking of sheep, Jesus says…

5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. 7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said that while the whole church has gone somewhere this year it is important to locate yourself within the flock. He said stop, reflect, and make sure you know “Where You Are”, “Where You Are Going”, and “Who You Are Following” as an individual sheep within the flock.

We were given 3 types of sheep and some descriptions for each. They were the Building Sheep, the Neutral Sheep, and the intentional or unintentional Undermining Sheep. We talked about being in the center of the flock or in the middle or on the fringes. We were also shown a picture of a sheep that was in the center of the flock, a black sheep, an isolated one, a wild one, and a shepherdless one with too much hair/wool. PICTURES OF SHEEP TYPES and some descriptions are attached to these questions in the app!

We may shift between these different types of sheep over the course of a year or through a decade but in THIS SEASON of your walk, which ONE of the types of sheep do you think you are, why, and how does that impact where YOU are going? (Each Individual)

4. What The Flock

In John 10:16 Jesus says...

16 I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

Let's remember "What The Flock" is called to do for the lost sheep out there. Let's pray for "What The Flock" will be like as new sheep are added to the fold over the Christmas and New Year season. Let's pray for "What The Flock" will show them about our Chief Shepherd, Under Shepherds, and the loving family they have become a part of. Let's pray for "What The Flock" can accomplish when we are united as ONE and continue our journey together. We Are Going Somewhere!!!

* Remember to pray for each other before heading home from life group and to stay in communication here in the app throughout the week on your life group messaging thread!
