2. Our Experience

2 Peter 1:3-4

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said we haven’t just been granted all things that pertain to life and godliness but somehow there is now life and godliness in us.

Ephesians 1:13-14

13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

How do you EXPERIENCE the Holy Spirit in you? Do you feel that the Holy Spirit has given you confidence/confirmation/guarantee of your earthly future and your heavenly inheritance? How would you describe your relationship/interaction with the Holy Spirit - Constant, Daily, Moments, Seasons, at Church, when in Need? (Group Discussion)

Everyone please write a single sentence that you could share with someone that describes the work of the Holy Spirit in peoples lives and that you think would make them want to EXPERIENCE life with Him. (Share your sentence individually)

3. Our Expectations

2 Peter 1:5-7

5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said that this is a command for all Christians to “supplement or add to our faith” which reminds us that there is work we are EXPECTED to do once we put our faith in the saving work of Jesus Christ. Pastor Vaughn also said that this is how the Spirit will win the war against our flesh as we add and practice these things.

1 Corinthians 13:13

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Both of these passages start with faith, end in love, and all the hope is in the middle. Of the areas we are EXPECTED to add to our faith in pursuit of love (Virtue, Knowledge, Self-Control, Steadfastness, Godliness, Brotherly Affection) which are the most difficult for you to walk in and which have been easier for you to add so far? Why & How? (Group Discussion)

4. Our Echo

2 Peter 1:12-15

12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder

On Sunday Pastor Vaughn said we need more men to be Echo-ers & Remind-ers. Pastor Vaughn also said that as we add to our faith our election is confirmed and our calling becomes more clear. While this is true for both men and women, are there any men in this Life Group who feel called to Echo-ing in this way that Peter is talking about? This may be as Pastors, Bible Teachers, Course Facilitators, or Disciplers. Are there men in this group that you as fellow members feel are called to be Echo-ers? If so tell them and tell them why you think so. No matter how far down the road in this area you are, if you are a man who feels called to Echo please let your Life Group Host know and the Elders will start a conversation with you.
